Nissan Repair: 2000 nissan maxima, nissan maxima, electro magnet

Question
My sons maxima has a motor buzzing sound coming from under the engine when the engine is turned off.  What is this and how can I fix it?

Answer
Joel,

It is probably the rear engine mount.  Mine, I have a 2000 Maxima SE, that was making the noise.  I did not screw with it until the mount started leaking.  The front and rear engine mounts have ferro-fluid in them to allow for less vibration when you are stopped.  After the car gets going the computer grounds the mount and it acts like an electro-magnet and tightens up so the car handles well.  Pretty cool car; the Maxima.  But, the rear engine mount is a pain to replace and runs bout $200 for the part alone...  Once you start leaking the black fluid, looks like an oil leak, replace the rear mount.  Otherwise, live with it unless you want to spend the bucks to get rid of the noise.
