Nissan Repair: Engine lag, defective alternator, autozone

Question
I recently had my rotor on the distributor come loose via losing the set screw.  The car died almost instantly but I found the issue and fixed it by replacing the rotor, cap, plugs, and wires just for good measure.  Now the engine hesitates pretty bad around the idle rpm range and also in the high rpm range. (3500+)  The mid range rpms seem to be like before.  I also have a flickering brake and battery light that I am assuming is in reference to the tension on the alternator belt.  The only thing I can't figure out is why the engine has this power loss now.

Answer
Danielle,

First, I would check the distributor for oil on the optics.  If the optical shutter wheel is coated the engine will perform as you state.  The flickering light could be the belt being loose or a defective alternator.  Autozone or Checker both will check the electrical system for free and verify it is is good or bad.
