Nissan Repair: timing chains and remote starters, interference engine, remote starters

Question
I have a 96 max with 150k miles. The timing is skippking and I was told that the
remote starter was the cause of this problem. I was also told to change
everything from the timing change and the water pump.

Answer
Kevin,

I would think not.  Second, check the static timing by cranking it to top dead center and check the timing.  If the waterpump is defective you would overheat and be using water.  This is an interference engine and if the mechanical timing jumped you would have bent valves and nothing would run...  Try a different garage and mechanic.
