Nissan Repair: Nissan Altima Transmission, 2003 nissan altima, nissan altima

Question
My question is I own a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 and the check engine light has come on for the second time in a week. I took it to the service repair station both times and the first time it was a vacuum line. less then aweek later the light has come on and the mechanic stated its the transmission Solenoid assembly and it needs to be replaced. His quoted cost was $1100.00. I looked on line and found the part to be ranging from 300-400 dollars. Is this something that involves allot to replace or can someone with some mechanical ability do this in his home garage.

Answer
Michael,

If you are not a transmission repair person I would leave this to a mechanic.  But, there is nothing preventing you from getting a second opinion for a better frice.  I would think around $1000 for the parts and labor so the guy you mentioned is not far off on his price.  Plus, once you are in the transmission he will be changing the fluid and filter and he has to dispose of the old fluid so your choice here.
