Then alternator was hit by a piece of metal.with diagnosis, it appears to be noise coming from the alternator.Possible damage of some kind,my question is this, what may be wrong with it and how many bolts do i remove and how many electrical connect, and is this a easy repair. i've change alternator's before, little help please, thank you Bob.

Answer
Hi Bob -

Alternator replacement is relatively basic. The hard part is always the access. If there is noise coming from it, then I would replace it. First and most important, disconnect the negative side of the battery.

The alternator is removed by undoing the top bolt (this will be the adjustment), and the pivot bolt on the bottom. Unhook the belt from the pulley and put it aside, or even replace it if it is worn or shiny. There should be 2 sets of wires attached to the rear of the alternator, one is a terminal, and one is fastened with an 8mm nut. Remove them both. Once access is gained, the alternator can then be removed.

The new one is replaced reverse of removal.

Hope this helps -
