Nissan Repair: Mass Air Flow Sensor, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra 4 cyl.   My check engine light came on and I had it tested at an auto parts store.  The gentlemen stated it was my mass air flow sensor.   Can I clean this part and if so how do I clean it.  This part is expensive.

Answer
James,

The part runs about $300 bucks.  You could get some air meter cleaner and give it a try.  But, in most instances, on Nissans, the air meter will need to be replaced.  Disconnect the battery before you replace the old one and then reconnect the battery.
