Nissan Repair: clutch on nissan d 22 pick up 4x4, clutch master cylinder, air leak

Question
hi,i think my clutch has gone but how do i know if the actual clutch has gone or its some other problem like cylinders, air leak etc, thanks

Answer
Hi John -

If the vehicle is very hard to shift into gear and the pedal is easy to depress, then it is probably the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder. Look for leaks (observe the master closely, as sometimes it leaks behind the base. A telltale sign would be brake fluid dripping behind the pedal, in the car). Replace if necessary.

If the vehicle is slipping in gear (A good test is to drive about 30 MPH and in gear, press the gas pedal. If the engine revs without picking up speed, then it is the clutch).

Hope this helps -
