Nissan Repair: 92 nx trans problems, brake master cylinder, clutch master

Question
Von Sudderth, I recently purchased a 92 NX 2.0 with the understanding that the clutch was gone. I replaced it, and at a standstill with engine off all gears seem to hit. Driving is a different story.I can catch 3rd sometimes, but overdrive c isn't there. Reverse grinds a little too. Any ideas?

Answer
Brandon,

Either the clutch master and slave are leaking internally.  They are hydraulic and leak like the brake master cylinder would when it fails.  In the case of a clutch it will not depress all the way and make shifting difficult.  Also, you might just have a trashed transmission that needs rebuild.  But, you gave it away when you said it shifts with the engine off.  That means the slave and master cylinder need to be replaced and bled with new fluid.  I like Ford High Perfomance Brake Fluid since it is really refined and gives a much better actuation feel.  Or, just use regular DOT3.
