Nissan Repair: 2000 maxima noisy blower motor, bronze bushings, cold temps

Question
My maxima blower fan has been making noise for the past several winters....but only when it gets cold.  I bought a used blower, installed it this past summer, and now it's doing the exact same thing.  There is no debris in the housing - but could it be hitting the housing only when cold temps?

Answer
Phil,

It is the blower itself.  Problem is the bearings are not bearings at all.  They are sintered bronze bushings that are sealed.  When the grease dries up the blower will make noise when cold.  You could remove the blower and drill, at an angle, with a really small drill bit into the edge of the seal, on each end, top and bottom.  Then, use a lubricant like Mobil 1 synthetic, my favorite.  Otherwise, 3 in 1 oil or the like and reinstall the blower.  It should quite it down.  Otherwise, a new blower is in order.
