Nissan Repair: automatic transmission, filter change, transmission fluid

Question
my 1996 maxima has 195K miles. the tranny is not shifting well like it used to when starting out and accelerating to speed. it seems to dwell and not shift well without letting off the gas a little to help it. its also notable worse when it's cold. after about 10 minutes or so its a little better. I bought the car with 100K miles on it and never did anything the tranny or fluid besides check that it's always full. it doesn't slip or leak any fluid. I'm thinking it may need a filter and fluid change.

Answer
Steve,

A fluid and filter change would be a good idea since it seems like the transmission fluid is gumming up and once warm it, the transmission performs better.  Now, with the miles you might just have a worn out transmission...  SO, try the fluid and filter change.  But, do not be surprised if the transmission still acts up.  That is a lot of miles of trouble free driving.
