Nissan Repair: 87 Nissan 200sx Stalls, nissan 200sx, air control valve

Question
Hi, I just bought an 87 Nissan 200sx for my daughter.  It seems to run fine, except it stalls often at lights and stop signs.  The only thing that I did notice was that there was a small leak from the exhaust manifold, a little smoke comes up from the engine where the exhaust is attached.  Could that be the problem, or could it just need a feul injector or tune up?  The owner did say that the timimg belt had recently been replaced.  Thanks

Answer
Kip,

First a tuneup.  Second I would check the idle air control valve.  Also, clean the throttle body with cleaner.  Remember that the car will not run without the air meter installed.  So, first clean the throttle body, install a new idle air control valve and wipe out the excess cleaner and install the intake hose.  Now, it will be hard to start with all that cleaner in the intake track so take your time.  It should run fine after you take it around the block.
