Nissan Repair: cleaning the inside of the shifter on a 1995 nissan sentra, silicone grease, nissan sentra

Question
I have a 1995 nissan Sentra and it has a had a hard time coming out of park. I recently took the top off of the console and it was really grimy in there. I sprayed it with WD-40 and it shifted fine for a day or two and now it is back to sticking in Park again. I want to clean out the grime or coke or whatever is in there...what should i use to clean it. Would a normal parts cleaner work or what should I get?

Answer
Hi Billy -

The best thing to use to clean off grime is brake cleaner. It will clean and evaporate quickly, then you can spray it with silicone grease (it lasts a LOT longer than WD40).

You should be good to go then -

hope this helps -
