Nissan Repair: nissan sentra 1993, nissan sentra, crescent wrench

Question
I have a 1993 nissan sentra manual transmission.  i need to change the tranny / gear oil but 1. cant find a dipstick and 2. the bolt / drain plug on my tranny case keeps snapping my hubby's tools off- any ideas on 1. how to check the gear oil level and 2. not to snap tools.  ?  much appreciated..monica

Answer
Hi Monica -

The trans oil is checked by removing that same bolt you are trying to undo. Once you get the bolt removed, stick your finger in the hole, and the oil level should be no more than 1/4" below the hole. Refill oil in that same hole. If oil comes out when the bolt is removed, then you are fine.

As for removing that bolt, if it is stubborn, you will need a large crescent wrench, or you can use an impact socket and breaker bar. Tha should do the trick.

Hope this helps -
