Nissan Repair: 92 Nissan PU Manual Steering Gear, haynes repair manual, worm gear

My steering was becoming sloppy (rest of front end checks out ok), so I removed the manual steering gear, only problem now is how to remove the "adjusting plug and lock nut" without the special Nissan tools (KV48101400 & KV48101500) mentioned in my Haynes repair manual. Any other ways to do this? Thanks. D

I would not bother.  If your box is loose I would source one from a wrecking yard before I would go into yours.  Usually, the worm gear is trashed and not rebuildable.  So, just get a used one.  That is, unless there is a shop that rebuilds steering box gears locally.  You will need the special tools to do the tear down you mentioned if you want to disassemble the box.  Setting the preload is a pain if you are so inclined.
