Nissan Repair: Codes, oxygen sensors, service engine soon light

Question
After changing the spark plugs, cap, rotor and the fuel filter the service engine soon light comes on, it is showing codes PO600 serial communication link, PO152 O2 circuit High Voltalge Bank 2, Sensor 1, PO158 O2 circuit high voltage Bank 2, Sensor 2, PO328 knock sensor 1 circuit high input Bank 1.  What does this mean, does all these sensors need to be replaced and exactly what is the serial communication link and can that be the problem?

Answer
Betty,

The serial communications link is usually associated with a scanner that is incompatible with your vehicle.  I have three scanners and some work with some cars and some do not.  I even have one that works great but will not clear codes.  So, I end up using the cheapie to clear the codes.  In short I would use a different scanner for your car.  Autozone and Checker both will read your car for free.  So, check with both and see what works.

The oxygen sensors are probably defective.  You did not mention the year but with a cap and rotor I will assume we are on the range of eight or ten years old?  In short, Nissan and most manufacturer use heated oxygen sensors to get them working sooner than old non-heated ones.  This gets the computer in control of the engine sooner and smog systems under control.  So, there is a relay that turns on to heat the oxygen sensors and it is timed so it eventually cust off.  You could test this first.  It is under the hood.  If it is good then replace the oxygen sensors.
