Nissan Repair: 2000 maxima died and now will not start., vehicle speed sensor, mass airflow sensor

Question
I've been here before with a question and now I have another. I just sold my brother a 2000 maxima and he immdiately started having problems. Now it died on him yesterday but he was able to restart it. Then it died on him again and once again was able to restart. It made it about 3 more blocks and died again but this time it would not restart. I have not had a chance to check it out yet but I intend to tomorrow night. If it is like the MAF, do I indeed need to have it "flashed" by the dealership? It had been throwing codes in the last couple of days prior to this problem. One of the codes was the VSS and the other was the IAC valve. If the VSS or IAC failed would it have this issue?

Answer
Alan,

Both the vehicle speed sensor and the idle air control valve need to be replaced and the codes reset.  The idle air control valve will keep the engine from properly idling.  The Vehicle Speed Sensor will screw with the computer since it cannor figure out how fast the car is going and will not shift properly and the engine will not run properly.  If the engine will not start does it turn over?  If so, you need to check for other codes.  Yes, a Mass Airflow Sensor could be the issue with the not starting, that is, if the engine turns over.  Also, since it is a 2000 Maxima have the coils been replaced?  Are the multiple cylinder misfire codes?  Email me and we'll go further.
