Nissan Repair: Nissan 1600nx starting problems, click sound, safety switch

Question
Hi Von,

I own a 1600NX, which I bought in 1992, and have driven across Canada and
back.
I am having difficulty starting the car.  When I turn the ignition, it make s a
single click sound, but doesn't turn over at all.  I was told to push the clutch
in all the way, then try it, which on occassion works.  I have resorted to push
starting the car, but have been late on various occassions trying to find a spot
on any form of incline.
I have changed the battery in the last two weeks, and the starter/ alternator (I
was told it's one unit) within the last six months.

I don't want to get rid of this car, it's been fairly dependable for the last 13
years.

Help!

Answer
Rodney,

If the clutch interlock switch is worn out either replace it or bridge it with a length of wire and a couple of blade terminals.  But, if you bridge the clutch switch the car can start in gear so getting a new clutch safety switch is the best solution.
