Nissan Repair: trans shifting, vehicle speed sensor, signal input

I just sold my brother my 2000 maxima GLE. He so sooner got it home & called & told me the trans was not always shifting into od, that it would act as though it was in neutural. It has a P0720 code & if he stops & turns the car off & then restarts it goes fine. Oh & now its also started surging at idle, from 1500 to 1800 rpm, code P0502. I'm guessing VSS on the trans & speed sensor valve on the other????

Yes, the P0720 is the vehicle speed sensor and that can screw with the computer and make it not shift into overdrive.

The second, P0502 is a low signal input from the vehicle speed sensor which pretty much confirms that the vehicle speed sensor needs to be replace.

If it were me I would replace the vehicle speed sensor and reset the code and see where this leads.  If you need more information please feel free to email me back.
