Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Altima will not start, nissan altima, timing chains

Question
I have a 1998 Nissan Altima with around 160,000 miles. A few months ago, I replaced the starter. Everything has been working fine since. Today I was driving to vist a friend. I had just left my house and stopped at a stop sign. I began to lose engine power approaching the sign, and the RPM just dropped and the engine died. I placed the car in park, and then tried to restart it. No luck. I checked the battery and it was fine. When i turn the key, the engine sounds like it wants to start, it turns over, but just dosent start. I checked the timing chains and they seem tight and intact. The distributor sparks. I just can not figure it out. Thank you for any help.

Answer
William,

Could be the fuel pump or the distributor.  Most of the time a car dies it is either fuel or spark.  I would first check the fuel pressure and if you have pressure look at the distributor for oil on the optics under the distributor cover.  An easy way to verify the spark is to use a timing light and see how it pulses.  Weak pulses means that the optical shutter wheel is contaminated with oil and that oil is blocking the little holes in the shutter wheel that signal the computer to fire the plugs.
