Nissan Repair: Removing rar brake drum - 1993 SE v6 truck 4x4, screw holes, spring kit

Question
Nissan Repair: Removing rar brake drum - 1993 SE v6 truck 4x4, screw holes, spring kit
rt rear wheel
I can't back the brakes off to remove the drum. I can't figure out how to release the adjuster lock to get the adjuster to contract the shoes.

I have two manuals and they mention nothing and have diagrams that don't match my truck. On my truck, the adjuster is near the top of the wheel which I have never seen.

Any ideas?

Answer
Roger,

The access hole you have should be where you would insert a small common screwdriver to get the tab to back off the adjuster.  If this does not work you might end up purchasing a spring kit and not get the core on the shoes after you man handle the drum off.  There are two screw holes on the front of the drum that can be used to mechanically force the drum off the backing plate of the axle.  But, if you do it this way you will end up messing up the spring kit and the shoes.  That is, if the adjuster will not allow the tension to be backed off the shoes.  You do have the right hole in the picture.

Roger,

Thanks for the kind words and I am happy that you got your brake job done...
