Nissan Repair: 98 Nissan Altima Airflow Control Switch Broken, climate control system, airflow control

Question
Hi,

The airflow control switch only works at one setting (blowing straight out). Winter is just around the corner, and I have to think about being able to use the defroster. What do I have to replace or fix or ?!?!?!?!

Answer
Hi Kalina -

My thoughts are -

Your climate control system works through various duct doors and baffles depending on what setting you give it. Sometimes the rubber seals get soft, especially in hot weather, and if you do not use it often (like the heater), it will prevent the door from opening, and directing the air through the defrost system. It is usually run by the vehicle's manifold vaccuum system, so the pressure is not that strong.

The only way to fix this is to take it apart and service it, this is quite a job, so i would recommend taking it in to a reputable mechanic and have it checked.

Hope this helps -
aloha
