Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Altima Engine Problem, knock sensor location, fuel pressure regulator

Question
1995 Nissan Altima, 170000 miles. Car stops running after 5 - 7 minutes. Can drive it a few miles then the engine quits. In troubleshooting, it starts again after cooling, but hesitates to accelerate. Codes are Knock Sensor and Camshaft Position sensor. I had a similar problem about 4,000 miles ago, and 1st replaced the distributor cap, rotor, sparkplugs & wires and fuel filter, ultimately replacing the fuel pressure regulator to fix it. What are common malfunctions other than the two sensors given? Where is the knock sensor located? What other components might cause these symptoms? Should I replace the entire distributor versus just the camshaft position sensor? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Rena -

It very well could be the ignition module. When the ignition module fails, the car dies when warmed up, and then starts up again after a few minutes. Being that this module is in the distributor, it gets pretty hot, and the PCB cuts out.

Knock sensor location varies, usually on the intake manifold near the front of the engine.

Hope this helps -
