Nissan Repair: 1987 Nissan pathfinder switches - battery drain, turn signal switch, nissan pathfinder

Question
1987 Nissan Pathfinder 6cyl 4WD 3.0 engine...

A couple of issues:

1)  After turning the wipers on for a while, they cannot be turned off...they just keep on wiping.  Eventually, they will shut off by themselves.

2)  When turning the vehicle sharply (to the right, I think), bells start ringing, like the ones that tell you you left you keys in, or lights on....

3)  Battery is losing charge.  It's a new battery, but after sitting for a couple days, it's drained.

Answer
Hi Larry -

I believe these are all related. If I am not mistaken, your wiper switch is on your turn signal lever, correct?

Looks like you have a short in your turn signal switch. Remove the housing around the steering column (4 or 5 philips screws). You can access the turn signal switch this way and replace it. The reason why you hear the dings is because your high beam switch is also in your turn sugnal lever, and I believe at times it turns on these lights, thus activating the bells, and draining the battery.

Hope this helps -
