Nissan Repair: noisey nissian terrano 11 2.7 tdi, blown head gasket, nissian

Question
my terrano over heated when a friend borrowed it he said the radiator was leaking so he filled it back up to drive it somewhere safe the next day he went back to it he put in some rad weld when he started it there was a really loud banging noise from the engine do you have any ideas what it is and what is the remedy and how easy is it to do many thanks

Answer
Hi Darren -

First thing I would do is check the compression in all cylinders. This will determine whether you have a major issue on your hands, as faulty compression means a blown head gasket.

Also check the reason why it overheated. You do not want to spend a thousand bucks to fix the engine if it is going to happen again. Something made th car overheat - stuck thermostat, cooling fan not working, or yes, a leak somewhere.

Please get back to me after this is done -

thank you
