Nissan Repair: 97 infiniti I30, shift linkage, hi tim

having a problem with my automatic shifter.  In order to start it i have to shift down inbetween drive and neutral to start it, once it starts drive is inbetween drive and neutral and never where it needs to be.  Don't know if i need a new shifter or what? if you can help me i didn't want to waste on things i don't need, please help, thank you

Hi Tim -

Looks like your shift lever is mis-aligned. This is why you cannot start it in "P".

Are you fixing this yourself? If so, the shift linkage can be re-adjusted by raising the car to access the console shifter linkage. One of those links should have a threaded rod for the adjustment.
