Nissan Repair: knock sensor, nissan maxima, knock sensor

Question
I have a 1998,99 nissan maxima with a bad knock sensor.I was going to replace it my self, but I was told that, the upper and lower intake will have to be removed. Is that so?

Answer
James,

It is a pain to take off the intake to get to it.  And, yes, to get access it has to be removed.  If you have a day to do the job it is not difficult.  But, it takes time to remove the upper and lower intake along with the related connectors, hoses, harnesses and such.  Your choice here since it is a time consuming job.  With the proper tools and a good service manual it takes about four hours if you have done one before.  If not, try for around eight hours.  And, since the hoses and connectors are nice and crisp from age and heat things break and hoses crack.  So, expect to spend some extra cash for those things.
