Nissan Repair: high beam dash light, turn signal switch, dashboard light

Question
Hi, I have a Nissan '95 Sentra and when I switch on my headlights the high-beam light on the dashboard comes on(only dashboard light). I've cleaned the headlight switches contacts but the problem still persists. When I switch to high-beam it works and when I go back to normal lights the high-beam light on dashboard are still on. What might be the problem?

Answer
Hi Ruben -

First of all, get a circuit light tester and check the following -

Turn the headlights on high beam (when the dash light indicates high beam). Remove the terminal connector for the head lamp (there should be 3 terminals) Pole the probe in one socket of the three (this is on the wire side). You should have 2 terminals with power. Switch the high beam back to low beam and perform the same test. There should be power to only one terminal. If these measurements check out, then replace the headlamps.

If not, then you might check the turn signal switch, or relay fopr replacement, in that order of probability.

Hope this helps -
