Hi, driving along, car stalls, starts to smoke a heap ..and i mean a heap..of white smoke out the tail pipoe. oil light went on, stopped, topped up oil..which wouldnt go down the oil fill tube very easily..was 'backing up'..start 4wd, car ran..but smoked like it was on fire !!..temp is perfect, car idles perfect..tapping noise from upper engine area when i past 2000rpm...think i now overfilled the oil as theres oil in the air cleaner box and on the filter..Any idea ?

I would first get the oil level correct.  Too much or too littel oil will destroy an engine.

Second, get a compression test done since it sounds like the rings on one or more cylinders have stuck.

You could have a broken valve that is stuck and that would be causing the noise.

In either case the engine has some deep problems that will have to be addressed.

The cheapest solution set here is probably getting a wrecking yard engine and replace yours.
