Nissan Repair: Acrylic Floor Sealer as a paint sealer., model paints, paint sealer

Question
When a car company manufactures a plastic console piece, what kind of sealer do they coat it with?  I've read that "Future" floor sealer does great with model paints, would it do great on my console after I re-paint it?  After the acrylic cures, will it endure the summer sun/heat?  What would be a better way to seal my paint?

Answer
Brian,

Unfortunately the manufactures do not seal their plastics as it costs money.  What they do it either injection mold the part the color they want to use a plastic paint to make it the color they want.  I would not recommend using a sealer as it will flake off in the summer heat.  Use a good plastic paint like Duplicolor or Keylon that is specifically for plastic and keep the can for touch ups later.  I recommend three light coats of the plastic paint and it should last.  Be sure to clean the plastic with liquid tide or what the paint manufacturer recommends before you paint.
