Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Sentra, nissan sentra, nissan transmission

Question
QUESTION: I am trying to replace the shift lock solenoid on my 1993 Nissan Sentra. How do I remove the pin connectors from the overdrive control switch position lamp harness? I can see the pins but can not move them. After I get the old ones out is there a trick to make sure the new ones are all the way in? Thanks

ANSWER: Steve,

If you are referring to the pin connector there is a clip that slides sideways that comes out and then the connector will come loose.  Reconnection is reverse with the clip going in after the pins are reconnected.  If you are referring to the interlock assembly there is a pin you push to get the assembly to seperate.  This is one where the factory diagram is much better at showing the process in an exploded view.

QUESTION: Thanks, I got the solenoid replaced, but that did not correct the problem. I had been told to replace the solenoid and that it should take care of the problem, which is the car will not shift). It is an automatic and will not go over 35mph. The car has only 81,000 miles on it. Can you think of anything else I could check?

Answer
Steve,

Nissan protects the transmission from additional damage by locking it in second.  That is probaly what is going on.  Take the car to a transmission shop and have them read the codes.  The dealer can do it but it will probably cost more money so check out your local transmission shops and see which has a scanner that will read a Nissan transmission.  A regular scanner that you can purchase at the store will not read transmission codes.  Email me back if you need more information.
