Nissan Repair: 93 6 cyl truck will not turn over, starter relay, intermittent problem

Question
93 se v6 truck will not turn over.  This started as an intermittent problem but now it doesn't work at all.  It will start if rolled down hill and releasing the clutch.

When the key is turned there is no noise. No clicking or anything.

Last year the same problem occurred and the repair person replaced the starter relay.

Answer
Hi Ed -=

could be the starter relay again, however, check the starter itself. Try tapping the housing of the starter and see if it starts. Sometimes the tapping breaks up carbon deposits and there is contact once again. You will still need to replace the starter, though.

Have you checked the ignition switch? get a circuit tester and while someone is turning the key, check power at the small terminal of the starter. If there is power, replace the starter. no power, then it could be the ignition switch, or relay.

hope this helps -
