Towing Issues: storage yards, storage yards, tow companies

Question
I am interested in starting a towing company in hawaii, roadside service, as
well as repo on the part time. Is it necessary to have a storage base yard of my
own to place vehicles or is there a place the banks and finance companies
provide for there recoveries.

Answer
Well from what I know about the islands, there are like 700 tow companies there... Ok that might be an bit of joke, but I understand there are lots of companies which are 1 or 2 truck company and run out of their houses..

Now if you are just going to do Road Service then you really do not need a yard.. But if you are going to store vehicles either from accidents or do repos then you are going to need a yard...

Now one big problem you will face is the zoning for such a yard. They are considered "eyesores" and people do not want tow yards around.

Check with the banks and finance companies, but we aware that they usually want to have things done the cheapest they can, and if that means they do not want to pay storage then it might be not worth it...

Have you any experience in the towing business, because it is not easy or cheap to have a tow company. The insurance costs and fuel alone will be a huge expense. Add to that a tow truck expense.

Not trying to tell you not to do it, but take a close look and see if there really is a need or demand for service. Do you have customers yet for the business.

Hope this helps a bit.
