Nissan Repair: fuel pump, nissan altima, fuel gauge

Where is the fuel pump located on a 1997 Nissan Altima?  How is the best way to access it so it can be replaced?

Fuel pump is located in the fuel tank, along with the strainer and float sending unit for your fuel gauge.

If you are doing this job yourself, ensure you have 1/4 tank or less, as you will have to remove the fuel tank to access the pump. At the top of the tank there is a circular cap with a few wires and fuel lines attached. It is removed by getting a brass punch (something that does not make sparks), and tapping the ring counter clockwise until the cap comes off. Everything is attached to the cap, remove it carefully from the tank, and you can continue the replacement.
