Nissan Repair: Service Engine Soon Light 2002 Xterra, bumpy dirt road, autozone

Question
Well, a few days ago the service engine soon light came on in my dash while I was driving down a very bumpy dirt road at about 20mph.  I checked in my manual and read that it was associated with the fuel emmissions system.  About two weeks ago I replaced my factory gas cap with an aftermarked locking cap.  Thinking that was the problem, I put the factory cap back on...that was about four days ago and the light is still on.  I just wondered what this could be if anything..should I look for loose hoses or what?  Thanks for any help you can give!

Answer
Callie,

Disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery for five minutes and then reconnecting it will clear the code.  But, if you want to know what the problem is you need to have the code read first.  Go to Autozone or Checker and they will check the code for free.  Email me back with the code and we'll know for sure.
