Nissan Repair: 1991 Nissan 4 cyl. 4x4, sprocket head, oil pan

Question
How do you keep the plastic timing chain guide that is attached to the
stationary metal guide from coming loose and falling into the oil pan. The one
on the left bank snaps onto the metal guide. This will be my third one that
has fallen off and ended up in the oil pan. Last time I didn't catch it in time
and had to replace timing cover, chain and guides. The chain had ran loose
and wore a hole into timing cover which got water into the oil.

Answer
Hi John -

I usually make myself a wooden wedge with a wire connected to it, and use that to hold the chain against the guide while I remove the sprocket, head, etc. The wire allows me to pull it back out when I am done.

Hope this helps -
