Nissan Repair: 1995 Maxima MAF Sensor?, mass airflow sensor, maf sensor

Question
Hi Von. My 95 Maxima's check engine light came on a few weeks back. A code check showed 3 things. Knock Sensor; O2 Sensor, Bank 1; and MAF Sensor. The car has been shuddering/jumping while accelerating, as well as starting from a standing position. Also, the car will stall when decelerating, turning, or stopping. None of this has been consistent. I just replaced the MAF Sensor this weekend, making sure to clean everything and tighten all connections, and the problem actually seems to have gotten worse. Any ideas?

Answer
Chris,

Replace those sensors that came up as codes.  Especially the knock sensor as this will really screw up the computer when it comes to timing advance and retard.  The knock sensor will cause the car to skip and shudder like you say.  The Mass Airflow Sensor will do similar things.  But, since you have these and the oxygen sensor you need to get them all replaced and then reset the codes.  I like to disconnect the battery and wait five minutes to erase the memory from the vehicle and it will act as if new and rebaseline all settings.
