Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Maxima Ignition Switch Installation, phillips screws, proof screws

Question
I am not a mechanic however I do have a mechanical mind.  I would like to replace the ignition switch on a 1993 Nissan Maxima.  How difficult is the procedure, can I do this or do I need to have a service tech do the install?

Answer
Hi Chris -

The install is relatively simple. I am assuming that this is the ignition switch, not the ignition cylinder. Remove the plastic housing around your steering column (should be 5 or 6 phillips screws). At the end of the ignition assembly is the ignition switch. Follow the wires down and disconnect at the harness. Remove the ignition harness by removing 2 screws that secures it to the column. These are tamper proof screws, so you will need a chisel and small hammer to undo them. Once the assembly is out, a small phillips screw holds the ignition switch in place. Installtion is reverse of removal.

Hope this helps -
