Volkswagen Repair: Hesitation and backfire, kadrons, bugget

Question
I have a VW powered sand rail that has a fresh 1641 engine with dual Kadron carbs and an electronic ignition.  I get a hesitation and backfire almost every time I go from idle to full throttle or in between shifts. Any thoughts?  Thanks

I'm no expert on Kadrons but it sounds like it's too lean, maybe on the idle jets and/or the acc. pump squirters. Is it backfiring through the carbs? That's usually a lean indicator or the ignition timing is retarded. The real expert on those carbs is A.J. Simms.
