Nissan Repair: knocking noise in a 92 nissan sentra se-r, nissan sentra, sentra

I'm trying to fix my brother's car. it has a knocking noise coming from the engine and it sounds like one of the rods. how do i get to it and how do i fix it.

The engine would have to be removed to get to the bottom of the engine and it will require the head and the pan be removed to get the piston and rod out.  Also, if it has spun a bearing, which from what you say it has that would mean the crank will have to be resurfaced or replaced.  Another option is finding a used engine in good condition.
