Nissan Repair: bearings, infiniti qx4, bearings

Question
I have a 1997 Infiniti QX4. I had my bearings repacked 2 years ago and my mechanic after checking my brakes says they need to be replaced. I have only put 12,000 miles on the vehicle since then. I'm not having any issues with the brakes. Am I being taken?

Answer
Steve,

The bearings are Japanese and they do not last like the American Temkin bearings.  So, there is a good chance the bearings need to be replaced.  It is not the miles but the time.  And, the car is a 1997 so I would say it is overdue to replace the bearings.
