Nissan Repair: 95 240sx automatic to manual swap, clutch master cylinder, neutral safety switch

Question
QUESTION: we swapped engines and transmissions from an automatic to a manual. Everything seems to be ok except the clutch, which we are still working on, isn't working and the car won't start. Any ideas?

ANSWER: Kim,

The neutral safety switch needs to be wired around or the wires need to be connected to the clutch pedal interlock switch.

QUESTION: Where is the clutch pedal interlock switch? We wired around the neutral safety switch and can start it but the clutch won't work and the ignition won't start the car... Thanks for all of your help.

ANSWER: Kim,

The clutch pedal you installed should have a switch on it.  That is what completes the circuit to allw the car to start.  The shift interlock is probably messing up the ignition.  Where the automatic used to be in the console is where the solenoid is so wire it to the neutral position or disassemble the column and remove it so the ignition key will work.  You can leave the car wired up as it is but it will start in gear and that is dangerous if someone starts the car in gear.  The clutch needs to be bled with DOT3 brake fluid to get the clutch to work.  You should have a master cylinder fror the clutch and a slave cylinder for the clutch on the bellhousing.  Pour in fluid at the top and open the bleeder at the slave cylinder when the pedal is pressed to the floor.  Now, close the bleeder and use you toe to pull the clutch pedal up to the top.  Repeat until the air is purged from the system and make sure the clutch master cylinder is filled.  Do this until the pedal returns on its own.

QUESTION: Thanks for all of your help on this. we did get the lines bled. It took way longer than expected. Our problem is still with the clutch. We have done everything but it still won't start. I know the pedal has the switch but since the car we put it in was and automatic how does that work? What engages the switch on the pedal?

Answer
Kim,

The shift interlock / start switch is where the automatic shifter is.  Probably on the shift linkage on the transmission.  A set of wires does the reverse lights and another set does the start enable.  Get a Haynes Manual and see the wiring diagram.
