Nissan Repair: Nissan sentra, nissan sentra, compression stroke

Question
QUESTION: when i replace the timming chain the marks on the gear must be put a t what possition, for me to time the engine?

ANSWER: Hi Marciano -

The "T" represents Top Dead center (0 degrees). There should be a yellow line right before that, and should be the timing mark you need. I think it is 10 degrees. In any case, just time it to the yellow line.

QUESTION: 0 degree means horizontal both? the ten degree is clock wise or counter clock wise. The top death center is with the first piston up right.

Answer
HI Mariano -

The sprocket has 2 lines on it, and should be lined up with the cylinder head. The bottom damper should have the timing mark lined up with Top dead center, or the yellow line lined up with the notch on your timing cover. Distributor rotor should be pointing at the #1 tower of the cap. This puts the piston at top dead center on the compression stroke where you want it. It should get you all lined up for installation. It is a bit tricky, as you cannot even be a little off. I have used autozone.com in the past, they have some great pictures that show you how to get it all lined up if you get stuck. Check it out.

I did not get the year of your car, so I cannot give you specifics, if you want give me the year, and i can fax you diagrams.

Hope this helps -
