Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan altima hard to start, neutral safety switch, nissan altima

Question
my nissan altima at 109k miles has a problem of starting ever so often. when it does have a problem i have to put it in neutral and it will start. but recently, it makes a clicking sound and doesnt start. i have to continously turn the key postion to off then to start, after about 5-10 minutes of this it will start, the batterie is fine and brand new, altenator was replaced 6 months ago and the air filter is clean as a whistle, how can i get it to start on first try all the time?

Answer
Jacob,

Either it is time to replace the starter or the neutral safety switch needs to be replaced.  To check this use a jumper wire to connect to the starter and see if it turns over.  If it does every time then the neutral safety switch is defective and if not replace the starter.  If it is the original starter and it is from 1995 I bet the starter is due for replacement.
