Nissan Repair: 1998 maxima starter, haynes manual, case need

Question
Von, can you please email me a diagram on how to rebulid my starter. i don't see one in the haynes manual

Answer
Kingsley,

I do not have one.  But, the way to do the rebuild is to disassemble yours.  The two bolts that hold the bendix to the case need to be removed.  Second, you will need brushes.  Next, you will need a scotchbrite or really fine sandpaper to clean up the armature.  That is where the brushes contact it.  Clean everything and make sure you do not use solvent that will hurt the windings.  Now, replace the brushes.  Lubricate the bushings and reassemble the starter.  You will need a length of wire or paper clips to hold the brushes in their holders to facilitate the reassembly.  Once the case and the ends are installed you can remove the wires.  This allows the brushes to contact the armature.  Tighten things up and you are ready to reinstall the starter.
