Nissan Repair: 97 Altima will not crank, altima, solenoid

Question
My 97 Altima has a new battery, but the car will not crank when starting. Is the problem a fuse, the starter, starter interlock, what can the problem be?

Answer
Hi Javier -

First of all, please check that you have power going to the starter. The large red wire should have power all the time. The smaller, solenoid wire should have power only when the key is being turned. Check both. If you have power, then it is the starter. Sometimes tapping the starter with a hammer or the like will loosen carbon build up and the car will start for a few more times. Even so, replace the starter.

Hope this helps -
