Nissan Repair: Service engine soon light, free hope, new sensor

Question
I replaced my 02 sensor in my 02 pathfinder and my engine light is still on.  I was told by the person that read my code that after I put the new sensor in the light would go out by itself.  He said that I may have to drive it for a while but it would re-set.  Is this true? or do I have to take it to a dealer to have it reset?  Please Help.
Thanks,
Jackie

Answer
Hi Jackie -

Up to the year 2001, you can clear the codes by turning a screw on the ECM.

I suggest you disconnect the battery for at least a minute and see if the code returns. This will reset and reboot the car's computer system. A lot of times they are nuisance codes and will not return.

If it does, then something else may be the problem. Usually, to avoid the high charges that dealers assess, take it to an Autozone near you, and you can check it for free.

Hope this helps -
