Nissan Repair: 1997 Nissan Altima-Cruise Control, cruise control system, nissan altima

Question
The cruise control on my 97 Altima is no longer engaging.  When pressing the button to turn on the cruise control system, the button light indicate that the system is on.  However, when reaching cruising speed and pressing the steering wheel buttons to lock in a speed, I get no response from the system at all.  It doesn't work.  I've tried various speeds, but nothing at all.  It will not engage.

Answer
Hi John -

I can think of 2 things -

Check the fuse (located under the dash drivers side). They all should be labeled for easy location.

The other one it could be is the speed sensor for the device. Check on the transmission for a sensor with a cable and wires attached. Unfortunately you cannot check it, just replace and hope for the best.

This device could also be run by vacuum lines, so check all connections in the engine compartment. Perhaps a vacuum line came off, or got damaged from heat.

Hope this helps -
