Nissan Repair: Nissan 200SX, nissan 200sx, dash lights

Car will not turnover. Key in ignition. Turn to start. All dash lights come on. Engine does not turnover. Hear a low hum for about 5 seconds then a "click" from under dash. Battery OK. Checked all fuses. Also noticed was the brake pedal not having any play. Seems stuck.

Hi Tim -

Looks like the starter. Please do this test - get a hammer and lightly tap the starter. This will loosen built up carbon on the brushes. If the car starts then, replace the starter. If it still doesn't, get back to me and I will walk you through a diagnosis.

The hum is the fuel pump, and the click is the relay shutting it off. No worries on that one.

Your barke is power assisted, so without the engine running, it gets very hard to depress. No worries on that one as well.
