Nissan Repair: p1320, crank angle sensor, ground circuits

Question
QUESTION: Can you please tell me where the crank angle sensor is located on a 2000 Nissan Maxima. Because I had the p1320 codes and my  car will not start.

Thanks,

ANSWER: Hi Greg -

Are you talking about the crank position sensor? If so, it should be mounted on the engine block near the crankcase

If the sensors are receiving the correct amount of voltage and have good low-resistance ground circuits, their output should be a pulsing digital signal or voltmeter reading while the engine is cranking.

If any of these conditions do not exist, the circuit needs to be repaired or the sensor needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: another thing is that I tried to start the car and it didn't start.  So, I hit the starter with a stick and the car started. So, do you think the started would give the p1320 code.

Answer
Hi Greg -

Could be -

Replace the starter, and see if the code returns. Ensure you remove the negative battery terminal before starter replacement -

One - because you do not want to short anything out while removing the staerter, and

Two - that resets the computer so you can see if any code returns.

Hope this helps -
