Nissan Repair: crank angle sensor, crank angle sensor, crank pulley

Question
QUESTION: Can you please tell me where the crank angle sensor is located on a 2000 Nissan Maxima. Because I had the p1320 codes and my  car will not start.

Thanks,

ANSWER: Greg,

The crank angle sensor is on the timing cover, under the crankshaft balancer/pulley assembly.  Remove the passenger side tire and inner fenderwell and you will see the pulley and behind it is the sensor.  The crank/pulley assembly has the blade that switches the trigger on the back side so be careful not to damage it.

QUESTION: another thing is that I tried to start the car and it didn't start.  So, I hit the starter with a stick and the car started. So, do you think the started would give the p1320 code.

Answer
Greg,

Yes, the sensor should be replaced.  The starter has ceramic magnest in the case and if you hit it too hard or too many times it will stop working all together.  I would disassemble the starter and replace the brushes as well as lubricate the rotating parts.
